My Rebuttal to a Rebuttal

Published

on

I sat and listened to Gov. Gary Locke, D-Washington, as he gave his rebuttal speech in regard to the State of the Union speech. He started his spew seemingly, praising the armed forces. But then, when he got to the health care issue, I must confess, I sat straight up in my chair.

This man, the governor, proposed how the Democrats would do something about our deficit and, proposed package upon package of spending. DUH! How can you cut something while continuing to spend? Well, allow me to share a personal and real-life experience.

In the fall of 2001, I was diagnosed with a dangerous form of skin cancer, that had begun in my scalp. First of all, I am a self-employed individual, with a small singular business, and I am uninsured. Immediately after the diagnosis, I began laser treatment for a few months, which progressed to radiation, and then to full-blown chemotherapy. Upon one of my visits to the doctor, I was informed that I could apply for Medicaid and receive some help with my medication. I was at a point where the treatments, twice weekly, were rendering me pretty much useless, and unable to earn a living. I spent most of my time lying on the floor of my office, much sicker than if I were suffering from a bad hangover.

Having no insurance, which was highly unaffordable at the time, I had to make decisions financially, such as do I pay this bill, or do I buy medication…to the tune of over $1200 per month? Well, that was a no-brainer…Bell South could disrupt my service, but I would not allow them to disrupt my life! So, the process began. I applied as instructed by the agent for this Medicaid benefit. I was only seeking help for the medication. The doctor and I had already worked out a payment plan for his services, and he was cool with that.

So, after about 60-90 days of the original application, I was informed that I had made too much money in 1999 and 2000. Go figure. I did not qualify. I was told that had I been on welfare and unemployed, or more so, unemployable, I would have a better chance of receiving aid. In other words, I was not going to get any help. So, according to this speech by the Democratic Governor’s rebuttal, the Democrats propose a program that would benefit the unemployed, lazy man, as opposed to the people who desire to work. You disagree? Well, check out the system for yourself. Get sick and have at it.

As you can see, if you would truly open your ears and eyes, it is so evident the leftists are no more for America than China is for America. Example: Minority Leaders in both the House and Senate, have made statements regarding Iraq, and how there is no proof of Weapons of Mass Destruction and Chemical Warfare and such….yet in the next breath, they are worried about our service people being exposed to chemical warfare, in case we do strike Iraq. So, how can that be? How can they hit us with something the Democrats swear there is no evidence of? It must be a trick of the new age!

Having seen and heard this, how can we not believe if they will lie about this, they will surely lie about anything else? On top of that, they asked Senator Kennedy, D-Mass., who slept through a lot of the speech, to give his opinion about the President’s speech. Here is a man who cannot put two coherent sentences together without all the uh’s and er’s, that it is disgusting to know how long this man has been sucking on the government teat. He, and countless others, on both sides of the aisle, are excellent arguments for term limits.

I don’t even pretend to agree with everything our President has said or done. Not even close. However, to see the reaction and inaction of the other side, I am more convinced that this man has to be doing something right, else, there would not be so much uproar. If everything were so terrible, the left would sit back and remain silent, and allow the man and his people to self-destruct. Is that happening? Not at all! Therefore, the opposition has to resort to spin, lies, and innuendo. That’s the American way.

Tonight, as we face a crucial showdown in the Middle East, I reluctantly stand with the President, but yet I do stand with him. Until I am shown a legitimate reason why this war should not come to pass, short of rhetoric and spin, I will continue to support this effort.

God Bless the USA!
