Bigots, Bullies, and Bad-Asses
Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.) yesterday displayed some of the same idiotic verbiage as did his Republican Senator counterpart, Trent Lott. To quote Rep. Moran, “If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this,” Moran said in comments first reported by the Reston Connection and not disputed by Moran. “The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going, and I think they should.”
Now, let’s rewind the tape. It wasn’t long ago the Democratic Senate was calling for Trent Lott’s head on a platter. And they got it, as he is no longer the Senate Majority leader. Lott’s past sins were drudged up from years ago, he was painted as a racist, even though his people from home defended him, the Democrats would accept nothing less than for him to give up his leadership post.
Being fair-minded, let’s look at Rep. Moron and his questionable tactics of the past few years. Unlike Lott, we only need to scroll back a tiny bit to see the pattern of Moran’s behavior. In 2000, he manhandled a little black kid, because he felt the kid was a threat. DUH? Better eat your Wheaties, Jim! Yet, he claims he’s no bigot because his kids went to school with African Americans, and his daughter is marrying a Jew. Sure, Moron, that sure makes your disclaimer secure. Yeah, right!
Later in the year 2000, Moran reluctantly returned a $25,000 “loan” from a drug company lobbyist, and by coincidence, I’m sure, just 5 days after the loan was done, Mr. Goodness himself signed on to co-sponsor a bill that would line his friend’s pockets via the drug Claritin. Oh yes, Mr. Righteous himself. Lott is looking better all the time, no?
It seems Moran has a track record of taking money from people and seeing they get what they pay for, as in another loan, of $447K, made by a credit company about to go belly up. And it just so happened, by yet, another coincidence, signed onto again, a bill regarding bankruptcy. Gee, he sure has lots of wealthy friends, huh? Loans here, loans there. And that’s the ones exposed by the media.
Hey, this dude Moran is also quite the slugger. Ole Maddog Moran got into a heated argument with a fellow representative from California, back in 1995. Being a non-partisan guy, he even threatened to punch Dan Burton in the nose. As if that weren’t enough, his wife left him after suffering enough of those threatening confrontations. So, yea, Democrats, show how you feel about, bigots, bullies, and badasses! I dare you. It remains to be seen how his brothers and sisters in the House will react. Will they continue to be the hypocrites they are known to be, or will they turn him into their sacrificial lamb? I have a hunch what’ll happen, but I won’t say it here. Maddog Moran is making Toricelli look like quite the gentleman, and his party should be proud. Remember, it’s not every day the Dems accidentally expose another member as a thug…it only seems like it!
